Ithaca, Ofelia, and Junior

Oh yeah. 

Ithaca

This one is prolly my favorite by far. It's a classic ribbon-bound book using a simple brown and cream color scheme. The endpages are a textured cream paper. Too bad though, this one's got an owner and will be on its way soon enough. 

Ofelia

This book is another attempt at the tacket binding, and it came out well enough. It's smaller than Ithaca, but very feminine and clean. I think a couple more attempts at this and i'll have it down great. 

Junior

This one will most likely be going to a great friend, and i'll be sad to see it go.  It's very youthful and fun. It's ribbon-bound book, and lots of fun to work on.

Other than that, life goes on like normal. A couple of weeks ago it snowed a little bit. I think it's a little too early for that. We spent that weekend carving pumpkins and watching movies with some good friends. It was great.  

LearnKey held a pumpkin cookie contest on Wednesday. A lot of smack talk was going around, and a couple of double entries. . . but it was fun overall. This was kind of fun for me, because in all of my baking endeavors, cookies are definitely hit and miss. The cookies turned out greater than expected. I made an icing and drizzled it over them. I came in 4th, which is respectable enough. The first through third places though were perfecto. 

Our new ward is great too. We recently switched over to the University married people ward, and of course, I got slapped with a calling. I am now the assistant compassionate service leader, meaning i get to help people out that need it, and try to get to know the girls really well, and just... be there for them i suppose. At least it's not teaching or nursery or something.  Cody is still safe for now....

Cody is good too. He's making it through the semester, and cannot wait for graduation day (whenever that is). He's been trying to figure out what else is left to take, but of course, gets the run-around all the time. Why can't his department be like mine was?  Just lucky I guess. Overall though, he's doing really good. 

Life is great and moving at a great pace.

The Crown Jewel and the Experiment

This weekend, whist enjoying General Conference, I branched out and made a couple of different kinds of books. One is called a Ribbon-bound book, and the other a Tacket binding book. Each was a little more difficult, but worth it. I'm thinking i'm going to name each book from here on out. . . because it amuses me. 

Anyway, the brown and blue one w. ribbons is the crown jewel. The pages are all stitched together with the ribbons, and a hardcover is made separate, with a little more give with slits for the ribbons to come through, and to be tied together. I'm a fan. 

The orange and brown one is the experiment. I wasn't sure what exactly what i was doing, but it turned out somewhat. The pages are made to size, are folded, and the hardcover set, and they are both sewn together, through the spine. It was definitely unique and a challenge, but worth perfecting in the future.  

It's exciting to me because it seems like the possibilities are endless, even given certain boundaries and styles. I can take a certain kind of book, and make it look different, suiting whatever i have in mind for it.  

My Sienfeld kind of day

Because..... it's amusing.

Today was so weird!  You know how in Seinfeld, how the four friends sabotage each other's days? Someone doing something often unknowingly ruining the other person's situations? To me, that was TOTALLY today. Today, at work, (we recently moved buildings, and are still trying to get situated) At good old Learnkey, we ran out of toilet paper. completely. For some reason too, nothing was done about it. Also, we have some bookshelves that needed to be repainted. So, Sheena, our lovely training center girl took on the job. The fumes from the spray paint, however, carried into the building, down the hall, and into the office area. This made my allergies kick up bigtime, which was NOT fun. Luckily, i had a pill to take, and it requires that you drink A LOT of water. Well, all was well and good, and the symptoms subsided, and the fumes went away. However, taking an allergy pill + lots of water + lots of laughter = a ton of bathroom trips.  

heh heh.... no TP.  

Let's just say that other certain businesses got a few visits from a certain Clare L. Campbell today. haha 

We better have some by tomorrow though, or heads will roll. 

4 more additions and homecoming fun

wow, what a crazy month. let's begin with the books? i made 4, and they turned out great. This time I experimented with some binding techniques, and made a couple of open-back books, along with a couple of stab bindings. I am so glad i got back into this, it's so fun and rewarding, and not to mention, stress-relieving.  So, here they are:






My design website is nearing completion. It's going to be a 100% clare-made flash site, which was a little difficult, but well worth it. Once that is up, life will be great.  These are the only 2 design-related things i've been up to, besides work. It's ok though, i'll take good, hard, satisfying work over school projects ANY day. haha

A couple of weeks ago was SUU's homecoming. We went to the Smashmouth concert and had a blast. I have greatly enjoyed Smashmouth since middle school, and it was SO SO good to see them again, and to go back somewhat to those days. They sounded great too, cheezy or not. 

After that and some great persuading, We finally became true T-birds. haha This means we went over to Old Sorrel at midnight, and kissed, touching the statue. we even have the card to prove it ;). I say great persuading because....well if you know Cody at all, he's not into stuff like that, and I am a total sucker...but I got my way this time. haha The rest of the weekend was great. We took it easy, and barbecued . Good times, good times. 

What else, what else? Cody's doing great in school, and work has been great. We moved buildings last week/this week, and it's been interesting, but fun at the same time. I work with such great people and a quite a few characters. They are all so awesome.  Now, it's close enough I can walk (til winter i suppose...) better take advantage of the great weather!

Life is great. we're learning more and more all the time, and love every minute of it. We love making a house a home, day by day. 

Well, off to watch Ironman again....
